Field Trips - Summer 2021!

NASA  Whether you are planning an outing or just looking for an educational trip, NASA in Houston has to be on your list. This is a great chance to explore the history of NASA’s early days and get up close and personal with real rockets.

GALVESTON Galveston offers 32 miles of relaxing beaches, superb restaurants, top resort hotels, marvelous downtown shopping, numerous antique stores, incredible art galleries, fabulous entertainment and one of the largest and well-preserved concentrations of Victorian architecture in the country.

HOUSTON MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY Founded in 1909, the purpose of the Houston Museum of Natural Science has always been to “enhance in individuals the knowledge and delight in natural science and related subjects.” To this very day, this purpose is carried out in every project, program and exhibition associated with the museum. As one of the most heavily attended museums in the United States, and one of the most attended venues in Houston, the Museum houses the Burke Baker Planetarium, Wortham GIANT Screen Theatre, Cockrell Butterfly Center and a fascinating variety of permanent exhibit areas that examine astronomy, space science, Native American culture, paleontology, energy, chemistry, gems and minerals, seashells, Texas wildlife and much more. In addition, the museum frequently presents traveling exhibitions on a variety of topics.

RICE UNIVERSITY On May 18, 1891, Massachusetts-born businessman William Marsh Rice chartered the William Marsh Rice Institute for the Advancement of Literature, Science, and Art as a gift to the city of Houston, where he made his fortune. The terms of the charter required that work on the new institute would begin only after Rice's death. The Rice Institute opened on September 23, 1912.

BUC-EE'S  Walking into Buc-ee's is like wandering into a mix of a fascinating, friendly, and organized super store, a barbecue-centric deli, and the Texas tourism bureau, plus a dash of the general store vibe. Buc-ee's might best be described as  a convenience-store chain with a SERIOUS following across Texas. Much like Pennsylvanians love their Wawa, Texans across the Lone Star State love their Buc-ee's. Food? Their breakfast tacos are some of the best. Clothing? Buc-ee's T-shirts — featuring its iconic beaver mascot — are a trademark of a cool Texas teen.

RUDYs  Just north of San Antonio, at the edge of the Texas Hill Country, sits the small community of Leon Springs. Founded in the 1800s by Max Aue, Leon Spring's cityscape changed when Max's son, Rudolph, opened a one-stop gas station, garage, and grocery store.Bar-B-Q was added to the operation in 1989, and Rudy's has been serving up tasty food ever since. The same original recipes that built Rudy's Leon Springs' reputation are now available throughout the Southwest. The Bar-B-Q pits are 100% wood fired with oak, a slower burning wood than the mesquite used by others. Along with time and oak, Rudy's cooks with a dry spice that ensures each plate of Rudy's Bar-B-Q is perfect.  Apply some of their  famous " Sause" and dinner is served.

NIKO NIKOs  Forty years ago Eleni was a popular singer touring Greek nightclubs from Athens to L.A. Then she fell in love with a man who loved food. They married and eventually landed in Houston and opened Niko Niko's. Today it is a   Houston landmark. This restaurant is an icon representative of the diversity of H-town.
